MPUMALANGA – A police officer, Sergeant Enock Mnisi aged 41 was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team on 20 July 2021 for charges of corruption, extortion and theft. He appeared at the Nelspruit Specialised Commercial Crime Court yesterday and he is out on a R3000 bail.

It is alleged that in November 2020, Mnisi was on-duty when he spotted a bakkie transporting counterfeit goods on the N4 highway. He allegedly ordered the driver to pay him to avoid being arrested. He allegedly solicited R5200 which he pocketed after he ordered the driver to withdraw from the nearby automatic teller machine. The incident was reported to the Hawks in Nelspruit and the investigation which led to Mnisi’s arrest was thoroughly conducted.

The matter will be heard again at the Specialised Crime Court in Nelspruit on 11 August 2021.
