DURBAN: 28 June 2021– Police received information about a suspect who was in possession of and distributing child pornography. On 12 May 2021, an undercover agent based in USA informed police about the suspect that was distributing child pornography on social media.
The Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) – Serial and Electronic Crime Unit conducted an investigation and the suspect was identified. A search and seizure operation was conducted this morning at Ridley Park in Malvern. A cellphone as well as three memory sticks were seized by police.
The cellphone was analysed at the scene and images of child pornography were found on the device. A 53-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of child pornography. He is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow.
