WESTERN CAPE – Ashley Williams aged 41, has been convicted by the Khayelitsha Priority Court on Tuesday for illegal possession of a prohibited AK-47 assault rifle.
Williams was arrested on the 19th of September 2017 by members from Mfuleni SAPS who swiftly acted on a tip-off that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm (AK47). The search at the premises at Avontuur Street in Delft resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle that was found concealed in a Wendy house.
The Hawks’ National Firearms Task Team was assigned to conduct further investigation and consequently Williams was found guilty of contravention of Section 4 of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000.
The Khayelitsha Priority Court has sentenced Williams to eight (8) years imprisonment of which three years were suspended for five (5) years with conditions. He will serve an effective five (5) years direct imprisonment.
