IFP: TASK TEAM TO INVESTIGATE THE KILLING OF A YOUNG BOY IN PONGOLA MUST BE
APPOINTED

The IFP Leader in KwaZulu Natal Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala called on the
MEC for Community Safety, Willies Mchunu, to urgently appoint a task team to
investigate the violent murder of a young boy in Pongola, North of KwaZulu
Natal. He also called on any witnesses to the murder to provide police with
information.

“The IFP were very disappointed in the manner in which police handled this
case. The National Prosecuting Authority claim that there is insufficient
information and were therefore compelled to release the suspect they had
arrested for the barbaric murder. One has to ask why they arrested him in
the first place. Something does not add up and we believe a task team can
determine whether the police failed to do their job,” said Mr Gwala.

“This is an indication that state accountability and independence has been
compromised by the ANC’s cadre deployment policy. A foundation of ‘correct’
policing and an ethos of discipline, integrity and accountability must be
inculcated into the force if its image and credibility are ever to be
restored,” continued Gwala.

“We believe that a task team will make an early breakthrough in this
senseless killing. In addition, we are calling for tolerance and people must
allow the law to take its course,” concluded Gwala.
