Northern Cape – A Hawks’ intelligence driven investigation project has successfully disrupted and dismantled the alleged drug syndicate operating in Upington.
During the project termination on Monday, 13 March 2017, five suspects aged between 30 and 38 were arrested. They were charged in connection with the Drug and Drug Trafficking Act and the contravention of the Immigration Act. The suspects allegedly traded with Hawks agent during the course of investigation.
This investigation project ensued in November 2015, with the sole purpose of addressing the illegal drug trade in Upington area. Upon their arrest, the following items were seized: – 2 Laptops; 21 Cell phones; 5 Passports; R 13 380.00, 68 520-00 Nira as well as drug implements.
They are due to appear in Upington Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 15 March 2017.
