Western Cape – Raymond Arend Scheepers (47), has been sentenced to effective eight years imprisonment for dealing in narcotics, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by the Khayelitsha Regional Court on 10 April 2018.

Scheepers was arrested on 27 March 2014, at a Storage Place in Paarl during a joint operation undertaken by the Hawks and Crime Intelligence, wherein an assortment of narcotics (dagga and Mandrax) worth R280 000.00 as well as an illegal firearm and ammunition were recovered.

The collective sentence includes; twelve (12) years imprisonment for dealing in drugs, four (4) years of which has been suspended for five (5) years. He was additionally sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The sentences have been ordered to run concurrently, meaning he is to serve an effective eight (8) years prison term.

The Hawks’ Provincial Head in Western Cape, Major General Nombuso Portia Khoza welcomed the sentences and pledged to continue to bring drug dealers before courts in an effort to continue fighting drugs in the province.
