LIMPOPO – The former Deputy Director at Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Facility, Clement Raphalalani (57) and three (3) juristic persons have been ordered to pay back the money following their conviction for corruption by the Giyani Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 18 August 2021.
Between 2017 and 2018, Raphalani in his professional capacity as a procurement officer at the facility connived with three companies that were awarded tenders to supply different items to the facility to inflate prices.
The companies include Clemenson Carrier, Pengson Manufacturing and Vhalenda Zwashu Trading Enterprise. When the accused appeared in court for judgement they were ordered to pay back the money as follow:
– Clement Raphalalani was ordered to pay back R569 500.00
– Clemenson Carrier was ordered to pay back R369 380.00
– Pengson Manufacturing was ordered to pay pack R1 000 000.00 and
– Vhalenda Zwashu Trading Enterprise was ordered to pay back R450 000.00
The total amount to be paid back is R2 388 880.00 and the date of their sentencing is yet to be determined. The cases against other accused persons on a similar matter are still on trial.
