East London – A 50-year-old man appeared before the East London Magistrates court yesterday (Wednesday) for one count of Fraud and 60 other counts of Forgery and uttering. Shaun Raymond Sam was arrested by the Hawks on the same day at his home in Beacon Bay.
Sam, the director of Masakhane Sales & Marketing CC allegedly defrauded the Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of approximately R600 000 between 2005 and 2008 by committing fraud in order to win tenders.
He was released on warning and his next court appearance is on 4 July 2016.
Similar cases involving eight other companies who also defrauded EMS are currently on trial before the East London Regional Court. In 2014 two other companies implicated in cases with the same Modus Operandi have been found guilty.
