Cape Town. – The Cape Cobras, who are still without a team sponsor, will kick off their campaign for Momentum One Day Cup glory in October by displaying the logo of the Nelson Mandela Foundation on their shirt and chest to demonstrate their commitment to the Madiba-legacy of inspiring a nation and contributing to a more just and equitable society.
The Cobras shared the Momentum One Day Cup trophy in 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 and won the series in 2011/2012. They hosted the Cup final in 2015.
“We fully endorse the Nelson Mandela Foundation-values of contributing to the making of a just society by reaching out to the vulnerable and by using our cricketing excellence as a platform to change, inspire and unite people,” said Nabeal Dien, Cape Cobras CEO.
“We believe the values and notion of our team and province contributing actively to education, giving back to communities and social upliftment slowly becoming the core of our ethos.
“The values of servant leadership, of caring, sharing and nation building were synonymous with Nelson Mandela, and we are proud to contribute to his legendary legacy in this way.
The Cape Cobras devoted 67 minutes (or more) to poverty-stricken people in the Cape Flats as part of the Mandela Day celebrations on 18th July 2015 by distributing soup and blankets to the homeless.
The Cobras were brand ambassadors for the Nelson Mandela Foundation in 2014 and displayed the 46664 on their arms and chests when playing at the Champions League T20 in India.
Western Province Cricket Association and the Cape Cobras have championed and supported several causes benefiting the poor, needy and vulnerable in society in the past.
They have supported charities like Reach for a Dream and St. Luke’s Hospice and donated 100 food buckets to Woodside Special Care in Rondebosch.
To show support for the Cape Cobras’ Mandela Day initiative, fans or cricket supporters can take selfies with the team and post it on social media under the hash tag #MandelaDay. Or you can tweet your support for the Cobras and Mandela Day from the game at #MandelaDay.
“We encourage corporates and other to become part of the great Cobras brand by investing in our team and the many properties we have available,” said Dien.
