KWAZULU-NATAL – The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit arrested two police officers from Berea police station detectives for corruption on 09 May 2018. Msawenkosi Mabaso (45), and Sergeant Thulani Dlangalala (45), both sergeants, briefly appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court on 10 May 2018.
The pair allegedly offered to release an accused in a reckless and negligence driving case in exchange of a bribe after he was arrested near King Shaka International Airport during 2016.
The hawks were alerted and an undercover operation was conducted, resulting in the arrest and recovery of money taken from the complainant.
They have each been granted R2000.00 bail and the case has been postponed to May 21 pending further investigation.
