NORTH WEST: The Hawks and members from the Crime intelligence in North West have arrested Daniel Joseph van der Merwe (65), Basitana Genete Bogopane (45) both employees of a private roadworthy testing station at Lefaragatlhe in Rustenburg, and Otshepeng Benjamen Makgale (30), a taxi operator on 27 February 2017.
The trio were allegedly involved in fraudulent activities concerning the issuing of roadworthy certificates without physical examination and inspection of vehicles.
Makgale would allegedly recruit vehicle owners who wanted roadworthy certificates for their vehicles around Rustenburg, collect the papers of vehicles and the amount of R1000. The documents and the money would allegedly be handed over to the testing officers who would issue out roadworthy certificates.
The three suspects have appeared before the Tlhabane Magistrate’s Court on 28 February 2017 and were all released on R1000 bail each. Their case was postponed to 28 March for further investigations.
