Pretoria: 15 May 2015 – A 35 year old suspect who has been charged with rape, sexual assault, possession, manufacturing and distribution of child pornography, has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Springbok Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
As part of an international investigation, information was received that a suspect from Port Nolloth, Northern Cape was involved in child pornography. Enquiries were made in the area and the suspect was traced to Springbok, where he is working as a security guard.
On Tuesday 2015/05/12 at 10:10 the suspect was arrested for charges relating to the possession, manufacturing and distribution of child pornography, sexual assault and the rape of minor boys. He gave
written consent that the SAPS could search his room and work locker, and if necessary seize any items that may contain possible child pornography.
The following items were seized:
- Three cellphones
- Documentation
- 23 x DVD / CD’s
The suspect gave a written confession and pointed out the homes of three of his victims in Port Nolloth. Seven victims in South Africa have been identified (five boys and two girls) aged between 5 and 11 years. One of the victims has given a statement stating that the suspect exposed him to adult and child pornography, sexual assault and grooming.
The arrest is part of a global investigation in child pornography, initiated by Homeland Security Investigations (HIS), Special Agents from Anchorage, Alaska via a website which suspects were using as a
platform to share child pornography. The agents initiated an undercover investigation that resulted in the identification of a suspect distributing child pornography.
