CDP congratulates farmers for preventing farm murder suspects from getting away.
“The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) finds it unacceptable that those who clearly acted in self-defence should now have a sword of a murder charge hanging over their heads, until such time as the prosecuting authorities or courts decide that it was justifiable,” says Rev. Theunis Botha, leader of the CDP.
Botha reacted to the latest farm murder, where neighbours got involved in a shootout with the alleged murderers, during which two of the suspects were killed, and the third arrested.
“We understand that it is part of the procedure to open murder dockets. But there has been a number of cases where law abiding citizens, or even the victims acting in self-defence, have been arrested. We again call on the authorities to change the name of these dockets, which might somewhat ease the trauma. In fact, we regard this practice of calling such dockets murder dockets as infringing on the human rights of those that have been implicated, when they should in fact be regarded as heroes.
“We congratulate the neighbours who acted swiftly, to ensure that the alleged farm murders did not get away. Our hearts go out to the next of kin of Johan van Rensburg, who was killed in the farm attack.
“This also again proves how ridiculous it is to have more VIP protection cops than those defending the borders, and to bestow all kinds of medals on police ‘commissioner’ Riah Phiyega.”
