The Free State Cricket Union annual general meeting was held last night at Chevrolet Park whereby the President Ms. Z Thamae presented the President’s Report for 2013/2014 Cricket Season.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2013/14 SEASON
Maiden speech it is!!!
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Allow me to present the annual report to you.
Mahatma Ghandi once said and I quote” If you want change, be the change you want to see in the world” close quote.
Free State is part of South Africa and whatever changes that are emerging, we will always be affected and we cannot be seen taking a different route. Instead, it requires a concerted effort in realising the set goal. A new development that requires us to be cautious in how we deal with it is Transformation, Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI) and the Funding Model. The sooner we embrace the changes the better.
I must acknowledge the contribution made by National Parliament for sponsoring cricket equipment to identified schools within the Province.
Just like in previous years, I must acknowledge the fact that Free State Cricket Union is, in my opinion, like a learner ship institution/base for excellence as we experience personnel taking up positions of note at Cricket South Africa in the likes of Ms Kgomotso Nyembe, Mr Hilton Moreeng and Mr Victor Mpitsang.
Free State Cricket Union wouldn’t be where it is without the dedication and taking responsibility of the Administrative personnel under the leadership of Johan van Heerden, the work that goes behind the scenes is highly appreciated.
On the down side of things we have experienced Mal administration- lack of discipline by certain members form Sub-Unions that led to the members being suspended or terminated their membership, an act that shows that some of us are selfish and do not look at the bigger picture.
Loosing senior players to other franchises was something that needed self-analysis in order to avoid it from repeating itself and finding a solution.
Chevrolet Knights performed as follows:
Sunfoil Series – 2nd place
Momentum 1-Day Cup – 5th place
Ram Slam T20 – 5th place
One of the highlights with regards to KFC Mini Cricket was that some Proteas members visited Mokitlane Primary School in Thaba Nchu. In our mist we had: Ryan McLaren, David Miller, Mignon du Preez Captain of the Ladies Protea Team, Marcia Letsoalo, Dane van Niekerk and Marizzane Kapp.
Free State Cricket Union is participating in the following programmes of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and values the partnership a great deal:
- Club Development
- School Sport and
- High Performance Programme presented by FSSSI
Notable successes and achievements during the 2013/14 season were as follows:
v CSA Provincial T20 Cricketer of the year.
Juanre van Wyk
v SA U/19 in a quadrangular tournament against India, Australia and Zimbabwe and Captained FS U/19 and Knights Cubs team.
Sinebhongo Ntshona
v National U/15 week.
Christopher Schreuder
v FS U/17, U/19 and Knights Cubs teams
Sean Whitehead.
v SA U/17 Rural Cricket Team.
Phillip Maré
v CSA Girls U/19 Team.
Izel Cilliers
v Best cricketer for FS LSEN.
Jean-Pierre Koekemoer
v Differently Abled Cricketer represented South Africa.
Michael Mphakonyane
v CSA Emerging Women Team and the Central Super 4’ Team.
Hlompo Nape
v South African Schools Team and senior provincial Team.

In conclusion, I would like to give my sincere thanks to the fellow Board of Directors, CEO and staff, players, media, sponsors, families, friends and the general public for their support and contributions towards cricket in the Free State. And last but not least I would like to thank my husband Mac and family for allowing me to serve the province I love, your undying support is highly appreciated.
