This is the 104th edition of the Australian Championships, which began in 1905, as well as being the 48th Australian Open and the 192nd Grand Slam tournament of the Open Era.
Melbourne Park hosts the tournament for the 29th year. It was first played here in 1988, when the venue was known as Flinders Park.
