Three suspects, believed to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will appear before the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Thursday following their arrest on Tuesday.
The suspects, one of whom is a serving member of the Student Representative Council and two former TUT students allegedly demanded R100 000 from a security company owner in exchange of having the company’s contract extended by the institution. The National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit and Crime Intelligence got hold of the information and an undercover operation was instituted. The three were arrested shortly after receiving R40 000 in cash. The suspects, aged 30 and 25 years old were arrested in Pretoria.
