DURBAN: 11 June 2021- The KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit will keep fighting for the rights of victims by putting perpetrators where they belong behind bars.
From 1 May to 31 May 2021, the enthusiastic KwaZulu-Natal detectives together with the assistance of rape victims who did not allow criminals to silence them achieved sterling results by securing a total of 34 convictions. This clearly shows that police officers around the province are working around the clock to bring offenders and wrong doers to book.
They arrested a total of 259 suspects, secured 15 life imprisonment, 44 years and 4 months imprisonment. The accused were arrested for various crimes such as assault with the purpose to inflict grievous bodily harm, statutory rape, kidnapping, abduction, rape, attempted murder, child neglect and indecent exposure. They appeared in numerous courts in the province where they were convicted and sentenced. Other arrested suspects are still attending court and the detectives are confident they will receive a deserving sentence.
