MPUMALANGA – Seven suspects appeared before the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after they were arrested earlier this week by members of the Hawks for illegal possession of explosives.
The group comprising five males and two females, namely; Monalo Khoza(31), Thulisile Nkomo (39), Sfiso Bonge Shabangu (32), Ronnei Lwazi Shabangu (49), Bheki Shabangu, Godfrey Sempira and Skhumbuzo Khoza (46) were caught on the act of allegedly selling military explosives (mortar bombs) worth approximately R3.7 million in the Tonga area following a tip-off.
Preliminary investigations suggests that the said explosives may have originated from a neighbouring country. The suspects have been granted R1500 bail each and the case has been postponed to 31 July 2017 for further investigation.
