The IFP has lashed out at the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Government for its
failure to provide shack dwellers with decent houses.
“As freezing weather persists around the country this is a painful time for
shack dwellers. Marikana shack dwellers in Kokstad are yet another example
of shack dwellers who bear the brunt of the KZN Governments failure to
provide decent houses. This begs the question of how many other shack
dwellers are experiencing a similar situation?,” said IFP Spokesperson on
Human Settlements, Mr Joshua Mazibuko, MPL.
“Government is moving painfully slowly in improving shack dwellers’ living
conditions. We further call on the South African Local Government
Association to intervene and advise all municipalities to address this issue
as one of their developmental priorities,” continued Mr Mazibuko.
The IFP will also put pressure on the Department of Human Settlements to
speed up the allocation of RDP houses, which people have waited for far too
long,” concluded Mr Mazibuko.
