EASTERN CAPE – The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Umtata arrested 14 supermarket employees on, 24 February 2021 for fraud.
It is alleged that between May and July 2011, the accused defrauded a local supermarket in Elliotdale by writing off sales, in the guise that the goods were damaged. The employer would replace the ‘damaged’ stock and the perpetrators would allegedly cash up from the tills. The group made more than R386 000 from the alleged fraudulent activities.
Minazana Dinizulu (35), Lamla Lusasa (29), Fezeka Kwinana (33), Babalwa Daku (36), Nompendulo Sahluko (37), Selina Mrwebi (34), Ncumisa Olivia Rithi (32), Inathi Luduli (34), Zanele Moyikwa (35), Andiswa Bolwana (34), Vuyolwethu Ndabeni (40), Nombuyiselo Sigcau (50), Sonwabile Mvumvu (43) were released on warning.
The fourteenth accused, Sithandiwe Nkamfeni (38) was arrested separately in Pretoria on Wednesday and she appeared at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday, 25 February 2021, her case has since been transferred to the Eastern Cape where she is expected to join the other former cashiers on 17 May 2021 which is their next court appearance.
