KWAZULU-NATAL – On 4 February 2021, Durban Magistrates’ Court sentenced a former cleaner from Bayview police station, Inderaj Bisoondaram (54) to five years imprisonment for various counts including corruption.

Bisoondaram was convicted in November 2020 for conspiracy to commit corruption, corruption, unlawful possession of stolen property, unlawful wearing or use of police uniform, unlawful possession of ammunition and theft. Between April and October 2017, the accused and his accomplice Warrant Officer Samuel Govindasamy (49) were selling police equipment including bullet proof vests, pepper sprays, live rounds of ammunition and police uniform.

He was sentenced to five years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit corruption, unlawful possession of stolen property, unlawful wearing or use of police uniform and corruption. Bisoondaram was further sentenced to twelve months imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition. The sentence will run concurrently. Govindasamy will appear in the same court on 16 March 2021.
