WESTERN CAPE –Nkosinathi Mjodo(25) was found guilty by the Blue downs Magistrate Court for murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition yesterday for the murder on an off duty police officer Sgt Donald Monjwa (35) on 24 June 2013 who was attached at Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit (CIG) Cape Town .
Sgt Monjwa went to the shop to buy airtime at a somali shop, leaving his partner inside the vehicle. When he exited the shop, he saw four unknown men chatting to his partner. He wanted to know what the problem is and slapped one in the face.
A second man tried to intervene and then a third suspect shot the victim behind his right ear before all of them fled the scene and subsequently the victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival due to the extent of the injury. Mjodo was slapped with an eight (8) year jail sentence for murder and this sentence will run concurrently with that of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.
