PRETORIA- Three suspects aged between 28 and 36 were arrested this morning following a high speed chase and shootout in Rama City near Ga-Rankuwa.
It is alleged that intelligence was received of a white Polo utilising blue lights that was operating in the Pretoria North area. The members of the Tactical Operations Management Section, Tracker Connect, DBK Risk Group and Crime Intelligence operationalised the information and members were deployed strategically to intercept the vehicle. Upon realizing that police were on their trail, the suspects sped off to the direction of Ga-Rankuwa. The suspects fired shots at the police in the ensuing high speed chase and the members returned fire. The suspects lost control of their vehicle and it overturned. One suspect was wounded in the shootout and received medical attention on scene. The other two were arrested. Two unlicensed firearms, cellphones and some cash were recovered from the scene.
The investigation continues and the suspects will appear in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 21 April 2021 on charges of possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. There is a possibility that the suspects can be linked to other robberies and hijackings in the Akasia area.
