Northern Cape – The Northern Cape Hawks have arrested a former police reservist, Abraham Jacobus Visagie (39) on Monday, 13 June 2016. He was charged for fraud and corruption which he committed in December 2015.
Visagie allegedly impersonated a Senior Public Prosecutor to solicit a bribe in Springbok Magistrate’s Court. He approached a 54-year-old woman facing a possible charge of culpable homicide, promised to protect her against prosecution.
He further demanded R6000 for himself and an additional R15 000 for his associates who would assist on the case. The investigation ensued soon after the matter was reported to the Hawks.
After his arrest on Monday, 13 June 2016, he appeared at Springbok Magistrate’s Court and was granted R2000 bail. The case was postponed to 21 July 2016.
