Pretoria – A police sergeant attached to VIP Protection Unit in Cape Town sustained injuries when he was shot by unknown men shortly after his shift ended.
The 35-year-old sergeant was approaching the traffic lights at Sarah Baartman and Symphony Road in Delft, Cape Town at around 22:30 when three men approached him and fired shots, injuring him at the lower abdomen.
The brave policeman returned fire and the suspects fled the scene. He then drove himself to the nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment and in a stable condition.
This is the second police killing incident in just three days, following the killing of a Warrant Officer in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday night. Two suspects had stormed into a clinic only to find out that it was closed.
On their way out the suspects fired shots randomly, killing one security guard. The police pursued them and the officer was then shot and died.
Investigation on both incidents are underway and anyone with information is urged to call 08600 10111.
