Pretoria: 29 October 2015 -A British national facing multiple charges of sexual nature in his home country has today appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court where proceedings for his extradition to the United Kingdom are to be heard.
The 69-year-old, whose identity cannot be disclosed because his crimes involve minors, was arrested yesterday (2015/10/28) in Greymont, Johannesburg, by the South African Police Service’s Interpol Extradition Team. He is being sought by the UK’s law enforcement authorities where he is facing 12 charges of indecent assault and sexual offences involving minors. The suspect is alleged to have committed these crimes between 1972 and 1999 before he came to South Africa. The local Interpol only became aware of his presence in this country in 2014 after they were approached by their UK colleagues for assistance. It was only after he was arrested that the police in South Africa became aware that he had been here for several years.
He was not the only fugitive fending off possible extradition to where he comes from. Also appearing in the Randburg Court was a Shay Moslie, a 33-year old Israeli national who was busy applying for bail. Moslie, who is facing three murder and four conspiracy to murder charges back in Israel, was arrested early this month by Interpol after a request for his extradition was received in June this year.
Moslie, who is alleged to be part of the Israeli underworld, fled to South Africa in 2012. The South African authorities began looking for him after Israeli authorities notified them of his presence this country in June this year and, within three months he had been identified, nabbed and brought to our courts from where the extradition proceedings will later commence once his bid for bail has been dealt with.
The two men’s court appearances have been postponed to 16 November 2015.
