Rilee Rossouw and Temba Bavuma scored outstanding centuries to steer the South Africa “A” side to a healthy lead on Day Two of the first unofficial four-day Test against hosts, Australia “A”, in Townsville on Friday.
Rossouw and Bavuma scored 162* and 125* respectively, putting on an unbeaten 283-run, fifth-wicket partnership to successfully chase down the hosts’ deficit and move on to post a lead of 103 runs at stumps. Rossouw’s century came off 228 balls, including 27 fours, while Bavuma’s came off 231 balls, with 13 fours.
Australia’s bowlers could only manage three breakthroughs on the day. Gurinder Sandhu (2/48) got the first two wickets, dismissing Hardus Viljoen and Reeza Hendricks for five and 18 respectively. The third wicket was Justin Ontong, caught behind off Moises Henriques (1/34) for six.
South Africa are 342/4 at stumps.
