Pretoria – He was supposed to have been sentenced in April 2012 but Chinemere Amagwoyi, a 33-year-old Nigerian national and his co-accused Prince Agu (35) decided not to attend the trial and left the country. A warrant of arrest was subsequently issued against them.
For three years the duo managed to live on borrowed freedom until February this year when Amagwoyi was re-arrested and was kept behind bars since then. On Friday he will have his day in court when he appears before the East London Regional Court, facing charges of human trafficking as well as contravention of bail conditions.
Amagwoyi and Agu were first arrested in June 2010 after they allegedly trafficked two female teenagers, aged 15 and 16 years from Johannesburg to East London. The victims were forced to work as prostitutes in Quigney until they were rescued by a Durban prostitute who hid them at her friend’s house until they were found by the police who were doing their routine patrols in the area.
The two were initially released on bail and the Hawks are still hot on the heels of Agu.
