LIMPOPO – Three former Maruleng Municipal officials, current serving Chief Financial Officer (CFO), two company directors and their companies (juristic persons) have been served with summonses to appear in the Lenyenye Regional Court for alleged corruption.
Between 2013 and 2014, the Maruleng Municipality allegedly awarded sewerage waste tenders to two companies to the value of R814 009 following misrepresented tender procedures.
It is further alleged that the companies never rendered any service but the money was paid out. Instead, the municipal workers are reported to be the ones who did the work that was supposed to have been done by the two companies.
The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation and a thorough investigation was conducted. The suspects who include the former Municipal Manager, former Supply Chain Manager, former Technical Director and a Chief Financial Officer as well as two directors together with their companies were charged and served with summonses to appear in court on 27 May 2021.
