NORTH WEST – Andries Greyvenstein (37 ) who is a major role player in the gold refining industry in Gauteng, along with Quinton Hendriks (36), Morne Botha (50) and Johan Van Der Linden (53) were convicted for illegal dealing and illegal possession of unwrought precious metals at the Palm Ridge Regional Court on Tuesday.
The four accused were arrested in Primrose during an clandestine operation after they were linked to several incidents of illegal procurement of unwrought gold.
Greyvenstein was sentenced to a fine of R150 000 or five years imprisonment of which half is suspended for five years. Van Der Linden was sentenced to a fine of R50 000 or five years imprisonment of which R35 000 and three years are suspended for five years. Meanwhile, Hendriks and Botha were each sentenced to fines of R50 000 or five years imprisonment fully suspended for five years.
