The IFP calls on the KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mamonye Ngobeni, to ensure that the right killers of Nokuthula Magwanyana, the principal of Villa Maria School in Bishopstowe near Pietermaritzburg who was hacked to death in Table Mountain Road last month are arrested urgently.
“The justice system of the country has failed the Magwanyana family after the charges against those accused were dropped in the Pietermarizburg Magistrate’s Court this week. We are very disappointed about the withdrawal of the charges because we believe that this case will now end up being ignored and not receiving the urgent attention it deserves,” said IFP KZN Spokesperson on Education, Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa, MPL.
“We want to know who killed the principal and what was the motive behind her killing. Her family, relatives, learners and her colleagues also would want to know who killed her. Therefore it is appalling when courts fail to give suitable answers when cases are not concluded. Often courts cannot proceed with cases because basic police investigations did not take place and conclusive evidence not presented. The Magwanyana family will not get closure in this matter if the right killers are still walking free in the streets. We want to see the police working tirelessly to apprehend the killers and bring them before the courts with conclusive evidence,” continued Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.
“We don’t want to experience the similar situation where we are still waiting for the police to tell us as a nation who killed Senzo Meyiwa because to this day we are waiting for answers, but only to be told that the police are still investigating. The MEC often says that they will “leave no stone unturned” to solve such cases. The IFP calls on the MEC to stop turning stones and to ensure that killers face swift justice. By so doing, he will prove that he is also feeling pain about the loss of the school principal and that he genuinely sympathises with the Magwanyana family,” concluded Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.
