The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a Bangladeshi national and an immigration officer allegedly colluding to secure the foreign national’s fraudulent entry into South Africa, through the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.
Andrew Aphane, the 39-year-old immigration officer stationed at the OR Tambo International Airport Immigration office allegedly authorised 38-year-old Abdul Hussain’s entry into the country fraudulently by stamping his false passport on Tuesday, 23 August 2016.
The pair was arrested by the Detective Task Team based at the airport and appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on 24 August 2016. Aphane was charged with aiding and abetting Abdul to enter the country illegally and Abdul was charged for contravention of the Immigration Act.
The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court released Aphane on R2000.00 bail, while Abdul was remanded in custody until their next court appearance on 2 September 2016.
