Members from the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Hawks arrested three suspects aged 34,36 and 52 on Tuesday in George, amongst the arrested was the examiner and his assistance as well as a foreign national.
The trio have been on the unit’s radar for a while following allegations of fraud and corruption, apparently committed at TJ’S testing station in George. It is alleged that the suspects were working in cahoots to process road worthy certificates for un-roadworthy vehicles, unduly pocketing the proceeds in the process.
Western Cape, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s Provincial Acting Head, Brigadier, Mzwandile Ndlovu welcomed the arrests. “ It is the our mandate to free society from the clutches of corruption, we shall continue to do so without fear, favour or prejudice. He said.
They are expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday facing charges relating to fraud and corruption.
