A North West man who was arrested by members of the OR Tambo International Airport based task team, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing a charge of theft of motor vehicle.
The 58-year-old suspect, Moustach Amos Mtshamba of Klerksdorp was arrested after he failed to return a hired vehicle to an airport-based vehicle rental company.
Mtshamba, along with another suspect, hired a white Toyota Hilux double cab with registration number FB 63 NC GP valued at R400 000.00. According to the agreement between the rental company and the duo, the vehicle rental date started on 22 August 2016 and ended on 29 August 2016, but the vehicle was never returned.
Police investigations revealed that the men wanted to open a business of transporting goods with a rented vehicle. Police discovered a memorandum of understanding in possession of Mtshamba, stating that the other suspect will pay him R28 000.00 on return date of the vehicle to the rental company. He is still at large, and police are tracing him.
The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court granted Mtshamba bail of R3 000.00 and the case was postponed to 19 October 2016 for further investigation.
