A routine search by the Trans-national Investigation Team of the South African Police Service at the OR Tambo International Airport has yesterday resulted in the arrest of a foreign national who was found to have swallowed cocaine bullets weighing 1, 1 kilograms. The value of these drugs is three hundred and twenty five thousand rand (R325, 000, 00).
The 46-year-old man, who was travelling on a Nigerian-issued passport, was arrested early yesterday as he was about to catch a connecting flight to Lagos, Nigeria. He was coming from Sao Paolo, Brazil. He told the airport police who were performing routine duties that the purpose of his visit to the South American country was to visit one of his friends. However when he was subjected to the searching processes, including the use of the scanners, it emerged that the suspect had swallowed something, which turned out to be cocaine.
He has since been charged with dealing in drugs and is due to appear in the Kempton park magistrate’s court tomorrow.
