LIMPOPO- Samuel Ricardo Bila (33) was denied bail by Modjadjiskloof Magistrate Court on 15 May 2017 on a charge of alleged fraud which he is facing. On 9 May 2017, WHO was informed of a cluster of undiagnosed illness and deaths including haemorrhagic symptoms in Likati Health Zone, Bas Uele Province in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), bordering Central African Republic. Since 22 April, nine cases including three deaths have been reported. Six cases are currently hospitalized. FREE STATE – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in the Free State province is appealing to members of the public with information regarding the whereabouts of the four (4) suspects Lira Morienyane (39), Ntabiseng Lempe (34), Alice Majake (28) and Andile Gxamza (33) to contact them immediately.
The suspects are wanted in connection with a murder case which took place at Phahameng in Bloemfontein last year March, during which a well-known tavern owner Mr Alfred “Chencha” Helepi (70) was shot three times at his tavern and died at scene. The suspects allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene with the deceased’s vehicle which was later found abandoned at Phelindaba not far from the scene.
A warrant of arrest was issued after they were all let go on 11 November 2016 following an order by the Bloemfontein High Court after the Regional Court struck the matter of the roll. They had been in custody since their arrest in May shortly after Helepi was murdered.
According to documents, the suspects Morienyane, Lempe and Majake are Lesotho nationals and Gxamza is from Port Elizabeth.

NPA OBTAINS A PRESERVATION ORDER FOR 2921 DONKEY HIDES

PRETORIA – The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has secured a preservation order on 10 May 2017 for 2921 donkey hides as well as the container they were kept in. The donkey hides has an estimated value of R4 381 500. The successful recovery of the donkey hides was due to excellent work by the South African Police Service (the SAPS) that played a vital role in seizing the hides before they were shipped to China. FREE STATE – August Phakedi Mogoregi (63) was sentenced to eight years (8) imprisonment after he was found guilty by the Welkom Regional Court for housebreaking and robbery on Tuesday, 09 May 2017.
