EASTERN CAPE – Fezekile Booi (27) has appeared before the Peddie Magistrate court on Friday for Possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was arrested through a joint operation between the Organised Crime unit of the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and the Tactical Response Team.
Booi was arrested at approximately 00:30 on Wednesday morning at his home in Bell location, Hamburg. Police found a .38 Special Revolver which had its serial number filed off at his home.
The suspect then led the members to Bandile Rotyi (30) who was arrested at about 12 noon in Mdantsane while he was exiting his girlfriend’s house. They found him carrying a blue bag containing an R4 Rifle which had its serial number scratched off, a CZ75 Pistol, 54 live rounds of an R4 rifle and ten 9 millimetre rounds of live ammunition.
Rotyi appeared before the Mdantsane Magistrate court on Friday for Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He remains in custody and his next court appearance will be on 16 January 2017 where the date for his bail application will be set.
Booi was also remanded in custody and will be in the dock again on 23 January 2017.
