Pretoria : 7 July 2015 – Today a 52 year old man has appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested at the weekend by the South African Police Service’s Transnational Investigation Team as he was about to smuggle crystal meth worth almost a million rand into the country.

Emmanuel Akunehuezi Obiwuru was traveling on a Nigerian issued passport and was one of the three people who was arrested by the team at the OR Tambo International Airport within a space of 24 hours for drug smuggling. At the time of his arrest he had just disembarked from a flight that was coming from Lagos, Nigeria. The drugs were found wrapped around his body. The accused has been remanded in custody for further investigation and the remand date will be communicated at a later stage.

Then at about 07h30 yesterday two men who were apparently in transit at the airport were caught as they landed from a flight that was coming from Sao Paolo, Brazil. The two had apparently swallowed their drugs. It was later confirmed that the two had indeed swallowed drugs, the value of which cannot be established as yet because some of the drugs are still lodged in their stomachs. The men, who were travelling on Angolan and DRC issued passports, are 35 and 47 years old respectively. They are due to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Wednesday, 8 July 2015).
