Special Assignment

By Their Fruits

FEW ISSUES in contemporary South Africa arouse as much emotion as “the land question”. Given SA’s history, it is hardly surprising that land reform should generate so much political heat. Black South Africans were devastated by land dispossession and disparities in ownership. Today, land still remains a symbol of inequality and social exclusion. It is for these reasons that in 2010 the government launched its ‘Land Recapitalisation and Development Programme’ by the then newly established Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. Recapitalisation is achieved…

IFP: CALLS FOR AUDIT ON FARMS OWNED BY EMERGING FARMERS

IFP: CALLS FOR AUDIT ON FARMS OWNED BY EMERGING FARMERS The IFP calls on the KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cyril Xaba, to urgently conduct an audit to determine how many farms are owned by emerging farmers and are in dire need of support. “Claims that most farms owned by emerging farmers have become unproductive is a clear indication that the situation calls for immediate, specialised support. Support for emerging farmers would enable the government to improve the participation of black South Africans…

IFP: DEMANDS ANSWERS ABOUT TRACTORS DISTRIBUTED BY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

The IFP in KZN Legislature has blasted the Provincial Legislature, accusing it of failing its mandate to hold the executive to account. “We have asked the following questions of the MEC for Agriculture, Dr Meshack Radebe last year:  How many tractors were purchased and supplied to individuals in the past five years and their costs? The names of people who were the recipients of these tractors and areas in which these tractors are being used? What are the costs of servicing and maintenance of the…
