Pretoria- A senior council who has been arrested for corruption was granted a R2 000 bail when he appeared at the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Advocate Lentswe Sydney Tlhagwane (51) had allegedly assisted a Mozambican national to obtain a Mozambican passport. The Mozambican is currently behind bars following his arrest last week for rhino poaching.

He is alleged to be part of the rhino poaching syndicate which was cracked last week when 13 suspects, including three police officers were arrested. Tlhagwane will be in the dock on 26 January 2016.

In the rhino poaching case; three police officers have been granted a R500 bail each, while one Chinese national’s bail was set at R20 000. One suspect made a confession. Seven suspects are still in custody and their bail application is being opposed.

The next court appearance for the suspects will be on Thursday.
